Early Childhood Key Worker

Gabriela joined our team in 2020 as a Therapy Assistant with more than 20 years’ experience working with children as an Early Childhood Educator, drama and Spanish teacher. Since joining the team, Gaby has worked closely with the Paediatric Physiotherapists at Little Movers Physiotherapy to expand her knowledge of paediatric conditions and how to implement therapy programs to maximise developmental outcomes. 

 

Throughout her work as an Allied Health Assistant, Gabriela has also collaborated with Psychologists, Occupational Therapists and Speech Pathologists. This has given her the knowledge to create interventions that weave strategies from different therapies together into engaging interactions that aim to achieve the best outcomes for every child. She acknowledges that each child is different and will need tailored support, and that their family, communities and educational environments are paramount to their interventions. She values collaboration with families, educators, therapists and other important people in the child’s life to create interventions that fit the child and their families’ unique characteristics and lifestyle. She prioritizes relationships with both the child and the family, and strives to upskill the adults in the child’s life to achieve a holistic, homogeneous approach.

 

As an Early Childhood Teacher, Gabriela underpins her practice with the Early Years Learning Framework, VIT’s Teaching Standards, the Child Safe Standards, and UNCRC’s rights of the child. She values inclusion and child safety above all and aims to maintain an anti-bias practice. She has a deep understanding of childhood development, and recognises the impact of the children’s environments in their capability to achieve their outcomes. She believes in child-led interventions, prioritises children’s and families voices and participation in matters that affect them, and actively advocates for the children she works with. She is committed to continuous learning and reflective practice.

 

Gabriela has a Bachelor of Early Childhood Education, a Graduate Certificate in Education (trauma-aware education) and Certificates in infant & child First Aid and Anaphylaxis, as well as Key Word Sign, bike riding for children with disabilities, and understanding the origin and function of behaviour. She is an Australian Citizen who is fluent in English and Spanish, and also speaks basic Italian and Portuguese. 

 

Gabriela is the mother of 3 children, and understands how to interpret behaviours and engage cooperation in children of all ages. She also appreciates the challenges of integrating therapy into busy daily routines.
